- Arbitrage
- Exploiting differing odds across bookmakers to guarantee a profit regardless of outcome.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap betting system that eliminates the draw and reduces the margin of victory to whole or half numbers.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for betting activities.
- Bet Slip
- The digital record where a bettor’s selections and stake are recorded before confirmation.
- Bookmaker
- A company that sets odds and accepts bets on sporting events.
- Cash Out
- The option to settle a bet before the event ends, receiving a reduced payout based on current odds.
- Decimal Odds
- Odds expressed as a decimal number that includes the stake; the total return is stake multiplied by the decimal.
- Edge
- The perceived statistical advantage a bettor believes they have over the bookmaker's odds.
- Fractional Odds
- Odds expressed as a fraction; the numerator shows profit relative to the denominator stake.
- Futures Bet
- A wager placed on an event that will be decided in the future, such as who wins the tournament.
- Hedge
- Placing a second bet on the opposite outcome to reduce risk or lock in a profit.
- Juice (Vig)
- The commission charged by the bookmaker, reflected in odds that are not true probabilities.
- Line Movement
- The change in betting odds or spreads over time due to betting action or new information.
- Live Betting
- Placing bets on a match while it is in progress, with odds that change in real time.
- Moneyline
- A bet on which team will win the match outright, with odds shown as positive or negative numbers.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals or scores in a match will be higher or lower than a set line.
- Parlay
- A single bet that combines multiple selections; all must win for the bet to pay out.
- Point Spread
- A handicap that gives one team an artificial advantage to equalize betting odds.
- Prop Bet
- A bet on a specific outcome within a match that does not affect the final result, like which player scores first.
- Rollover
- The number of times a bonus or deposit must be wagered before winnings can be withdrawn.
- Stake
- The amount of money wagered on a single bet.
- Unit
- A standard measure of bet size, usually representing a fixed percentage of the bankroll.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability suggests, offering a positive expected return.
- Void Bet (Push)
- A bet that is canceled and the stake is refunded when the spread or total lands exactly on the set line.
